When studying organisms, why is it important to study more than one member of a species?

Imagine sampling eye colour in humans. If you only checked one person who happened to have green eyes, you might assume that all humans have green eyes, when we know that’s not true. Also anomalies exist in populations, so the larger the sample group the more reliable the result.
