Enroll in the IB (International Baccalaureate) program in your school, or
transfer to a school in your district that has IB. This is the best available preparation for university.
Take clubs and participate in activities that interest you..It is about quality not quantity. Take maybe three clubs, and try to hold an office for as many years as you can in one of them. Don’t try to take ten clubs and kill over.
Taking honoers and AP classes will look good, but make sure your ready to handle it. You don’t have to take AP in EVERYTHING, maybe just two or three things. This isn’t to say make your elecives and your other classes blow off ones…simply take a few super hard classes and keep your gpa up in all.
Also, participating in a sport or having a small part time job looks good to. If you can participate in 2 or 3 clubs, have 2 or 3 AP classes, and hold office in 1 club…while doing a sport or part time job and keeping your gpa up…it shows to them you know how to balance your time and your a well rounded person..your not just book smart.
Good Luck
I would advise that you seek for professional help on the task. There are a lot of companies out there that can help you create a great resume. They will help you present your best face to the world. A company like Speakwrite Communications offers a professional resume service that can ensure your resume receives the attention it deserves.http://www.speakwritellc.com/
take the hardest clases[ IB's honors advanced and advanced placement and community college classes if you can] your school has to offer
take language classes
join any 3 clubs or do sports that interest you
start studying for the SAT and ACT N O W
keep your GPA strong
spend your summers doing something like vonlunteer work or summer academic camps… or community college classes
First off, “padding” doesn’t work. Padding is for losers and those who use it “end up” at the “bottom of the barrel.”
Do the following and you won’t have room for “padding.”
1) Take the SAT now! (Prepare well, start now!)
2) Select a passion and be number 1. For example, if Debate, make sure to win state or excel at national level. (If you are the number 1 anything you will be so important that colleges will find you.)
3) Prepare for the PSAT. (Start now!)
4) For top tier universities high GPA is imperative. (Start yesterday)
5) Graduate at the top of your class. Be the best! (The closer to the top the better.)
6) Get into a true “dual credit” Academy in your state. (Texas Academy of Math and Science, as an example.)
7) Find a research job for the summer (Research Intern or Research Assistant, etc) or anything that sounds academically related like Columbia University Pre-freshman summer course in Politics. Join a club or organization and attain a leadership position, like President, Treasurer, etc. (Start your leadership training, now.)
I heard that there are more students with 100+ GPA then the total freshman enrollment of all top tier universities combined. Now you know why GPA is not enough. You have to bring more to the university.
PS – Your competitors, those other 15-year-olds who want to get into Columbia are reading this, too.
This is the Best Advice You’ll find anywhere. Right here on Yahoo. If you don’t believe it then read my source. Hmm, I should copyright this.
Best wishes!
